We are unprepared

Feb 4, 2025 | Adaptation, Climate Crisis, Climate Literacy

Yesterday an update from Damian Carrington on Bluesky caught my eye.

Europe's governments and banks will struggle to cope with the soaring costs of catastrophes such as floods and wildfires, EU’s top insurance regulator warns“I think it is the biggest risk facing society, frankly,” says Petra HielkemaHT @carbonbrief.org #climatecrisiswww.ft.com/content/2844...

I know I sound like a broken record, but we are utterly unprepared for what is about to unfold. Climate chaos and the resulting impacts is not a 2100 problem. It is a NOW problem that will escalate like nothing we have experienced before in the next 15-20 years.

Below you see the engine room of the climate crisis. This equals more heat!

It is pretty straightforward. If we are unable to cut emissions by 5.5% this year and EVERY year thereafter until 2030, then 2ºC is out of reach. Everyone should dust off the IPCC's Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability report!

The impacts and knock-on effects of heating are extremely far reaching.

In many cases these impacts are arriving sooner than anticipated.

We are dealing with a global shock.

Not having an earnest hard conversation about what this means on the ground is going to cost us very dearly.

Sometimes it's hard to get a "global" picture.

Here is something that may help from the team at Yellow Dot Studios.

Work your way through this playlist.

There are only 17 reports.

Get the picture?
