Musings from the Southern Tip of Africa

We have know for decades

Mar 12, 2024 | Adaptation, Climate Crisis

For decades the science has warned about the risks we face as we continue to heat.

NASA: “Heat stored in the ocean causes its water to expand, which is responsible for one-third to one-half of global sea level rise. The year 2023 was the ocean’s warmest recorded year.”

Based on our heating trajectory, as a result of continued burning of fossil fuels, we can begin to project impacts with some accuracy.

Here is Sir James Bevan, Environment Agency CEO at the 2022 Flood & Coast Conference discussing what he call "the hardest of all the in inconvenient truths"

Take a listen:

Here is an example of this in the real world

2030: New Hampshire land projected to be below annual flood line by 2030

Here is the situation in New Hampshire in 2024:

NH coastal towns assess damage following weekend storm, flooding
Roads along New Hampshire's Seacoast flooded during high tide

We are racing into a brand new world where long standing physical environments will become highly unstable.

This affects everything.

How prepared are you for the ensuing disruption?
