On the 4th of April an intense heatwave hit parts of Mail with Kayes reaching a maximum temperature of 48.5°C forcing the government to close schools as a result of safety concerns.
In the recent IPCC reporting this region is one of the areas where heat-humidity stress is projected to increase as we continue to heat.

This puts millions of vulnerable people at risk.
Reports are now coming of there being more than a 100 deaths caused by this event.
This situation will only deteriorate further the more we heat. We are in a climate emergency that requires urgent adaptation conversations for these places that are at high risk.
Will we have enough time to adapt?
Time will tell.
